About this event

See the Nestor episode from "Ulysses" brought to life before your eyes in a memorable dramatisation. This will be followed by an enlightening guided walk as you explore Joyce's Dalkey connections, including the school where he taught for a time.

On Bloomsday, the 16th of June at 15:30pm, the Nestor episode from "Ulysses" will be brought to life before your eyes in a memorable dramatisation featuring Mr Deasy and Stephen Dedalus. The schoolroom in which the scene is set is nearby on Dalkey Avenue. Joyce was a teacher here himself for a short time.

There are other surprising Dalkey connections with Joyce, revealed in a guided walk led by local Joycean guide Joe Dunne immediately after the performance.

Joyce’s father, John Stanislaus, lived in Dalkey, having left Cork. He kept a boat in Coliemore Harbour & competed in the Dalkey Regatta. Savour the setting at the Clifton School where “[o]n his wise shoulders through the checkerwork of leaves the sun flung spangles, dancing coins.”
