In this 2 hour guided walking tour, you will learn about the ancient history of the village of Tallaght, spanning over a thousand years, and its transformation in recent decades into one of Ireland's largest urban areas. Engaging tales and hidden gems from different periods of Irish history will be revealed.
Some stops include Whitehall House, Katharine Tynan's former residence, which was a hotspot for many notable people from W.B. Yeats to George William Russell (also known as AE), relating to the Irish Literary Revival.
Visit the site of the former Tallaght Aerodrome and hear about its role during WW1, to the Irish War of Independence and the Irish Civil War. The picturesque St Maelruain's Church was part of an important monastic site and the former Urneys Chocolates factory was a major employer in the village in the 1900s.
The meeting point for the tour is at Kingswood Luas stop and there are opportunities to engage with the Irish language provided.
