About this event
Roger Casement (1864–1916), was a diplomat and Irish revolutionary executed for high treason by the United Kingdom during WW I. Casement was a renowned humanitarian who exposed the brutal exploitation of indigenous peoples in colonial Africa & South America. During his postings as a consul for the British Foreign Office, Casement also collected numerous animal & plant specimens. Casement’s collections and correspondences highlight his connections with prominent Irish naturalists, and reveal his deep interest in the natural world, and love of animals in particular. This talk presents an overview of Casement’s natural history collections.
