Sandymount Beach is a favourite for a morning stroll. At Clontarf you’ll find access to beautiful Bull Island and long stretches of beach, whose reliable winds and peaceful dunes are popular with kite surfers, swimmers and dog walkers.

For a classic Dublin experience, hop on the DART train to one of the city’s seaside suburbs. To the south, Dún Laoghaire’s Victorian and Georgian terraces overlook a handsome harbour of colourful boats enfolded by two long granite piers. Dubliners flock here daily for an age-old ritual – a leisurely stroll along Dún Laoghaire pier, finishing with a whipped ice-cream cone from Teddy’s. In the next bay you’ll find Sandycove’s famous 40 Foot, where hardy souls brave the waters 365 days of the year.

Northbound, head to Howth for an exhilarating cliff walk. Follow this with freshly cooked seafood by the pretty harbour or spend a day on the expanses of Portmarnock’s ‘Velvet Strand’ or Skerries’ glorious South Beach.
