About this event
The Magao Caves in the Gobi Desert, also known as the Caves of a Thousand Buddhas, contain documents, sculptures, tapestries and paintings that traveled along the Silk Road from the 4th to the 14th centuries. In this illustrated talk, Joan Barnewell will explore the Magao Caves in Dunhuang and their remarkable Buddhist art. She will also tell the story of the European adventurers who explored the Library Cave in 1907.
